Ubuntu (Zulu pronunciation: [ùɓúntʼù]) is a Nguni Bantu term meaning "humanity". It is sometimes translated as "I am because we are" (also "I am because you are"), or "humanity towards others" (in Zulu, umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu).

UBUNTU Archive © is a dynamic digital space created by Mona Penn-Jousset in 2019. UBUNTU Archive © believes learning can exist and flourish outside of the classroom setting. The project provides students and educators with a platform to share and enhance their knowledge of the contemporary art world through visual storytelling and curated exchanges of resources.

“Our project came out of the challenge to take advantage of today’s unique opportunities to bring arts education into digital spaces in thoughtful and accessible ways to students across lifeways. UBUNTU Archive © is our answer to this challenge.”

Education through Dialogue

We believe education can and should be led by teachers, students, and artists. By providing direct pathways for dialogue between these individuals, we can begin to reinvent what arts education is and redetermine its limits.
